Micellar water is essentially a gentle treatment for removing impurities from the surface of the face skin. The name «micellar water» comes from its main constituent - micelles - small balls in water or solvent. In general, micelles consist of two components - hydrophilic (loving water) and lipophilic (loving fat), which absorb various impurities on their surface. The micelles contain surfactants that cleanse the skin from sebum, sweat, makeup, dust particles and other impurities, without requiring rinsing. The composition of micellar water contains soft water with a reduced concentration of magnesium and calcium ions, which also allows you to gently cleanse the skin. In addition, studies have demonstrated the ability of micellar water to moisturize the skin, due to the presence of components such as glycerin in the composition.
Among the disadvantages of using micellar water, it is worth noting that not in all cases micellar water is able to completely and carefully remove makeup, especially for waterproof makeup products. Also, if you have oily skin, micellar water may not be the best choice for cleansing the skin, since micelles are oily in nature. In this case, micellar water can be used as a means of cleansing and toning the skin, however, the skin may require additional cleansing. Users with sensitive skin should also be a little more careful, as the presence of surfactants in micellar water can lead to skin irritation.
